A New Paternalism

Thank you Mor­ton for your kind wel­come. My talk is a lec­ture, DeepL told me. My lec­ture is a text. I am read­ing a text, which I have just writ­ten in my blog. In Ger­man, that’s why we call such clas­sic 50-minute lec­tures at a uni­ver­si­ty: “Vor­lesung”. I am read­ing a text to an absent audi­ence.

Since 2020, this has prob­a­bly become the most com­mon greet­ing. In 1930, Albert Ein­stein opened the 7th IFA in Berlin in front of a micro­phone with a radio access with: “Dear present and absent”.

The rever­sion to a soci­ol­o­gy of the body, is dis­as­trous. Paul Wat­zlaw­ick and Niklas Luh­mann, have wast­ed their whole life to write against this block­ade of think­ing by the dis­tinc­tion of “sub­jects and objects”. For rea­sons.
